When I was first asked to write the story of my weight loss journey, I thought “No Problem, jot down a couple of paragraphs and good to go”  I was wrong…..  I was even wrong in what I was calling it.  My journey has not been about weight loss, even though that has been one of the huge effects. My journey has been about getting healthy, mentally, physically, and spiritually. It has taken me over 10 years to come to that realization.

As a young child I had been very skinny. I was active as a lot of kids were at that time.  You played outside, you rode your bike. I wasn’t really allowed to just sit around the house.

When I entered middle school, I joined basketball. That turned out to be a horrible experience, and looking back, one that scarred me for the rest of my school years, as I never joined another sport again. There was no support from the coaches or the other team members..

As I started to grow and mature in my teenage years, I was taunted by the other kids.  At some point those words affect you.  To deflect the negativity I began to laugh at the taunts(laughing at myself) and became the “Funny Girl”

No longer having the drive for sports, having  a very poor self image, I jumped into the very first relationship I could and became pregnant at 17 in 1994. Up until this point my body appearance was that of a healthy person, now remember, I said appearance.  Where in all reality most of my meals consisted of fast food or junk food.  I used my pregnancy as an excuse to let myself go, eat what I want, gain a massive amount of weight and not work out.  Soon my weight was out of control, more than that of a healthy pregnant woman.

7 years and 2 pregnancies later, nothing had changed… other than my weight.   Tipping the scale at 237#, I knew I had to make a change. The funny fat girl is who I had become.  The life of the party, making everyone laugh with obnoxious and crude behaviour. Not caring about myself in any way.

I didn’t just feel ill, I was ill, constantly at the Dr.s office. Gall bladder issues, acid reflux, and so much more.  My eating habits were horrible, fast food, buffets, junk food, soda, alcohol.  The list was endless.  I would get up in the middle of the night and binge eat anything and everything I could find.  I would bake desserts by the double and triple batch ,sit down and eat it all in a couple of sittings.

In 2005, I was mentally ready to start making a change. This was a big step.  I was forced to make lifestyle changes, which meant more than changing the food I put into my body. Exercise became a daily habit.  I saw my Dr. who diagnosed me with hypothyroidism.  I started on medication immediately.

Even with all of this new found motivation, I still wasn’t on the right track.  My caloric intake was way below where it should have been and I was doing endless hours of cardio.  I did end up losing 100# within the next 2 years, but my body was still in rough shape, and I truly did not feel good.  I was no longer able to sustain the low calories and the exercise, so I began to increase my calories, and the weight started to creep back on.

I knew I needed help.  I had gone as far as I could with the knowledge I had.  In 2010, I hired a personal trainer.  I began to see her once a week, working on resistance training .  We also dove into my nutrition.  That was when I was introduced to Isagenix. A product I still use to this day and love. I was very skeptical of Isagenix in the beginning, questioning the cost, the value, the ingredients. It was not long before I began to realize the positive effects it had on me. AND…..I was starting to see actual definition in my body. You know….the TONE us ladies all crave….. SPeaking of cravings….. My cravings for constant sugar were gone. I felt so much more energy than I had in years.I had always struggled with meal planning, and snacks, and what to eat after my workouts.  Isagenix spelled this all out for me. It took the hassle and guesswork out of what had become an everyday headache. I was becoming stronger, healthier, and not just physically,  my mental health was improving also.

I began setting goals of running in 5Ks, then 10Ks, which I accomplished and moved on from there.   I have done 4 half marathons, 1 full marathon, and 2 triathlons along with all of the 5Ks and 10Ks. I now include my children in 5ks, which is a  great way to show them what a wonderful thing being healthy is, but also the memories that are created.

During this time, I fell in love with the concept of becoming healthy, and helping other people reach their goals. In 2012 I stopped seeing the personal trainer and decided to craft my own workouts.

I began to realize that this was more than just working out and getting healthy.  I was passionate, I wanted to help people feel the same way I did. I wanted people to know they could do anything. That year I got certified in Group training.  In 2013 I became a certified personal trainer.  I began helping people out of my home.  Trying to teach them the fundamentals of a healthy lifestyle. I still did not feel at that time, that this was exactly what I wanted to do with my new found knowledge.

In July 2013, I decided to try a class in Green Bay that had been put out on social media by people I was following. I wanted a new experience, something that would challenge me. That was the day I tried Better Body Fitness.  I knew right away this was exactly the type of environment I wanted to be in. These were the people I wanted to help.  They were all so loving and kind, and supportive.

After sitting down with Chuck, and sharing the story of my journey, and discussing my goals, he asked me to come on board as a BBF coach.  I accepted and could not be happier with my decision.

My journey is never ending. I would be lying if I told you I didn’t still struggle.  Of course I do, BUT the big difference now is I recognize and I don’t medicate with poor food choices.

I thank God every day that he gave me the strength to do what I needed to. You can do it to.  No one is going to do it for you, and no one can want it for you.  This is your journey. You have to be willing to put in the time and the effort.  Once you are ready to do that, you will start to see the changes in your life. Thats why I love being a part of BBF, we will provide you with the tools to start your journey, and continue on with it.
